A 6.0 earthquake rocked Napa County and surrounding areas including San Francisco. Buildings, roads, and water and gas lines were damaged, and more than 100 aftershocks followed. Nearly 200 people were injured.

Two devastating earthquakes struck Nepal in the past 3 weeks. The first, on 25 April, was a magnitude 7.8, and the second, on 12 May, was a magnitude 7.3. Over 8,400 people died from both the quakes, many places were destroyed, and some villages were completely destroyed.

A magnitude 7.3 earthquake occurred about 80 miles from where the first had occurred. Between this quake and the first, over 100 quakes of magnitude 4 or over have struck the area. After the first quake, many people set up camp on open ground, some as a precaution and some because their homes had been destroyed.
